Kazakhstan, Astana, Nov.13 / Trend D. Mukhtarov /
Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry is actively seeking the release of its citizens detained in Turkmenistan, Kazakh Foreign Ministry representative Altai Abibullayev said at a briefing in Astana on Tuesday.
"A representative of the Kazakh Embassy met with our citizens in order to assess the general state of our compatriots in a detention centre," Abibullayev said.
He said the Turkmen side is expected to make a judgment in the near future.
"We hope that the release of Kazakh citizens will be resolved favourably and in the spirit of good neighbourly relations between our countries," he said.
On Oct.19 Turkmen border guards detained seven Kazakh citizens for illegally crossing the Turkmen border.
