Kazakh border guard Vladislav Chelakh, accused of mass murder at Kazakh Arkankergen border Kazakh in May appealed the court verdict, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported with the reference to Chelakh's lawyer Serik Sarsenov.
According to the lawyer, the appeal with be heard within one month.
Some 15 bodies were found at the Arkankergen border post in late May including 14 border guards and a ranger. A border guard Vladislav Chelakh confessed that he killed his colleagues. However, later he refuted this confession and said the border post had been attacked. Earlier this month Chelakh was sentenced to life in prison after being found solely responsible for the killings.
According to Kazakhstan's law, the court verdict can be appealed within 15 days.
