Kazakhstan and China have reached an agreement on the construction of waterworks facilities on several medium and small trans-border and border rivers, the Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture said today.

According to the information, an agreement was reached at the 10th session of the Kazakh-Chinese Joint Commission on Trans-Boundary Rivers.

The agreement was reached at the meeting to complete scientific operations on the water resource assessment of the two countries in 2014. These studies will form the basis to develop the agreement on water apportioning between Kazakhstan and China in 2015.

The countries have also agreed to build a joint protective facility on the River Khorgos to prevent avalanches from alpine glacial lakes.
