Kazakhstan, China intend to increase commodity turnover to $40 billion by 2015

Kazakh Foreign Minister Erlan Idrisov held meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi today who paid official visit to Astana, Kazakh Foreign Ministry reported on Monday.

During the negotiations Foreign Ministers of Kazakhstan and China had a constructive dialogue on Kazakh-Chinese cooperation and interaction within international institutions, as well as on regional and global security issues.

The evidence of successful promotion of trade and economic cooperation is the volume of bilateral trade, which amounted to $23.9 billion in 2012, as well as the intention of the parties to increase the current figure to $40 billion by 2015.

One of the key issues of the agenda was the upcoming visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Kazakhstan in September. Given the significance of this visit for further development of bilateral relations, the parties had exchange of views on high level preparation to the event.

In addition to the official visit of the heads of states, the visit program envisages meeting with the head of the government and the speaker of Majlis, Kazakh Parliament, as well as signing of bilateral documents, including Joint Declaration on further deepening of comprehensive strategic partnership which will show the commitment of the parties to the spirit of good neighborhood, constructive and equal relations.

"Kazakhstan attaches great importance to China's significant role in international peace, its importance as one of the drivers of world economic processes, as well as the country's active position in solution of international problems," the report said.

The parties agree that the continuation of negotiation practice between the heads of states within the mechanism of regular meetings will be the main basis for development of bilateral cooperation in strategic branches of Kazakh and Chinese economy.

The high political trust is clear also by the fact that, the parties adhere to rational and balanced attitude towards the issues related to the use of transboundary rivers. Productive exchange of views on the issues of water allocation and joint water intake on small cross-border and border rivers demonstrate willingness of the parties to continue the coherent regulation of this issue.

During the meeting the parties also stressed the topicality of close cooperation within multilateral mechanisms, including Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and The Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), which begin to play more active role in the issues of security and stability in the region.
