The issue of establishing the UN regional centre was discussed by Kazakh Foreign Minister Erlan Idrisov and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan reported on Monday.

"At the end of his visit to New York on September 27-28, Foreign Minister Erlan Idrisov made a speech at the general debates of the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly, and held a meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson, Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs Wu Hongbo, and Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos. During the meeting with the UN high leadership issues of further expansion and deepening of cooperation between Kazakhstan and this organization were discussed, in particular the sides paid special attention to the establishment of the UN regional centre with a headquarters in Almaty, which could bring together all branches of the organization represented in the region," the report said.
