Geological exploration is one of the priorities of Kazakhstan's industrial development, Kazakh Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov said on Tuesday, at the opening of the VIII KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum.

"The launch of Kashagan can certainly be seen as a victory for technological progress, the advantage of joint efforts of the world's leading oil and gas companies. But Kazakhstan does not limit itself with this project, and geological exploration is one of priorities of development policy of country's resource and industrial capacities," Prime Minister said.

He went on to add that, "in a short time, oil production in Kazakhstan increased over three times - to 80 million tons per year, and gas production - for more than five times - up to 40 billion cubic meters".

According to Akhmetov, a round table will be held during the forum, which will discuss a fundamentally new Kazakh project - Eurasia.

"Here, the matter rests in creating an international consortium," Prime Minister said.

"In accordance with President's instruction, we are creating a tech revolution in energy - from the search for raw materials to the production of finished goods with a high added value, which implies the development of petroleum and petrochemical products, the improvement of energy efficiency measures and the development of traditional energy sources to the 'green' application of effective approaches in terms of renewable energy," he said.
