Around 2,700 drug-related crimes were revealed in Kazakhstan in 2013, the Committee on combating drug trafficking said.

"Some 2,700 drug-related crimes were revealed, over 1,700 sales were prevented and about 2.2 tons of drug, including 131 kilograms of heroin were seized in Kazakhstan in 2013," the committee said.

According to the committee, the drug situation in the country remains difficult.

The taken measures do not correspond to the growing drug threat. It is failed to timely detect and prevent the smuggling of drugs, to block international supply chain and transit of drugs through Kazakhstan. The prevention of drug addiction is not appropriately ensured in the country.
