The first energy positive city in the world will appear in Kazakhstan, Minister of the Environment and Water Resources, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Astana EXPO -2017 national company Nurlan Kapparov said on March 4.
"The first energy positive city in the world will appear in Kazakhstan," he said. "EXPO city will generate energy, accumulate it and give its surplus to Astana on sunny or windy days during the exhibition."
"A smart dust system will complement a smart grid system," he added.
"This is a vacuum system that will suck debris from each building and then deliver it to a central plant for processing," he said. "A unique company will also conduct water treatment."
"Besides the exhibition facilities, about one million square metres of housing will be built at EXPO city," he said.
"All houses will be built on the sustainable development principle by using green technology," he said. "They will be energy efficient. Moreover, it is planned to build hotels, fitness centres, shops and schools using the same principles."
"Housing will be sold," he said. "The international pavilions will be converted into offices, or used as a scientific and technological high-tech cluster which can generate additional income for the city."
"Each EXPO city facility will be used," he said. "People will come here and look at an architectural miracle."
Moreover, the proximity of EXPO city and Nazarbayev University will allow them to complement each other.
The EXPO International Exhibition will be held in Kazakhstan in 2017.
