Kazakhstan plans to sow 21.8 million hectares this year, which is 1.5 percent more than in 2013, the Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture said on May 28.

"Some 15.9 million hectares will be sown with grain, two million hectares - oil-yielding crops, 3.4 million hectares - forage crops, 410,000 hectares - vegetables, melons and potatoes," the ministry said.

Currently, the process of sowing spring crops, with the exception of corn and rice, has been completed in the south of the country. About 79 percent of the planned area has been sown in the western and eastern regions.

"As of May 26, some 295,700 tons of cheap diesel was shipped for farmers at about 95 tenge per liter ($ 1 - 182.02 tenge)," according to a press- release.
