Kazakhstan's Parliament approves amendments to bill on uranium mining

The Mazhilis of Kazakhstan’s Parliament has approved the amendments made by the Senate to the draft law "On amendments and additions to the Code of Kazakhstan 'On Subsoil and Subsoil Use' on uranium mining", Trend reports citing the Kazakh media.

On December 23, 2020, the draft law was approved by the Mazhilis of Kazakhstan’s Parliament in the second reading and sent for consideration to the Senate of the Parliament. The draft law was returned by the Parliament’s Senate on February 18, 2021.

The Committee on Ecology and Natural Resources Management, having considered the amendments made by the Parliament’s Senate to the aforementioned draft law, noted that the amendment presented by the Senate excludes the norms related to the procedure for organizing activities operator of independent examination of project documents and development analyzes.

"The need for this amendment is due to the instruction of the head of state given on January 26, 2021 at an expanded meeting of the Government of Kazakhstan on the ban on the creation of public and private operators," Deputy Alexander Milyutin said at a plenary meeting of the Mazhilis.

Taking into account the above-mentioned, MPs of the Mazhilis approved the amendments of the Senate to the mentioned draft law.
