Cereals, potatoes and vegetables are planned to be sown on an area stretching 1.05 million hectares this year, which is by 40,000 hectares more compared to 2020.

The process of preparation for the spring field campaign was discussed at an online meeting.

"The agricultural crops will be sown on a 1.05 million-hectare-area in 2021, which is by 40,000 hectares more than last year,” head of the Agriculture Administration Askar Sanaubarov said. “Cereals and legumes will be sown on a 940,000-hectare-area, which is by 22,600 hectares more than in 2020, oilseeds - on a 34,500-hectare-area (by 10,100 hectares more than in 2020), forage crops – on a 70,600-hectare-area (by 6,900 hectares more than in 2020)."

“It is planned to plant potatoes on an 11,000-hectare-area, vegetables - on 1,800-hectare-area,” Sanaubarov said. “The area of the fields also increased.”

A sufficient number of quality seeds have been prepared for the spring sowing. The use of mineral fertilizers will be increased. The funds have been allocated for combating pests and removing weeds.

The area of irrigated land is planned to be increased by 1,308 hectares this year, which is expected to reach 24.6 percent of the total area.

More than 9,500 tractors, 229 seeding complexes and 5,556 seeders will be used in the sowing campaign.

Agricultural enterprises of the region are renewing the equipment. Some 57 tractors, 12 tillage machines and 13 seeding complexes worth 1.7 billion tenge have been purchased since the beginning of the year.

Farmers will receive 19,000 tons of cheaper diesel fuel.

“Some 2.7 billion tenge is envisaged for subsidizing the crop growing sector this year,” the Agriculture Administration said.

"Ensuring food security is one of our main tasks,” head of the region Zhenis Kasymbek said. “We must do everything necessary to carry out spring fieldwork at the optimal time. We pay special attention to the use of agricultural technologies, rendering of the state support measures, the supply of cheap diesel fuel."

The specialists of the Karaganda Agricultural Experimental Station have determined the optimal sowing time taking into account the conditions in Central Kazakhstan. In accordance with the recommendations, the work is planned to be carried out from May 10 through May 28, depending on the territorial zones.
