Gold mining enterprise's construction kicks off in Kazakh Zhambyl region

The construction of a new mining-metallurgical plant has started in Kazakhstan’s Zhambyl region, the press service of the region’s administration said, Trend reports.

According to press service, in the village of Nogaybay, Kordai district, a ceremony of laying a time capsule was held and the construction of a new mining-metallurgical plant of 'Monterra Qasaqstan' LLC was launched.

Back in 2016, during the ‘Taraz Invest - AgroChemical Day’ investment forum held in Taraz city (Zhambyl region’s urban center), a memorandum was signed between the region’s administration and a German company on the construction of a mining plant and the development of a gold mine. ‘Monterra Qasaqstan’ LLC founded in 2015 is a subsidiary of the German Monterra Group AG investment company.

In 2016, a contract was signed for the exploration of gold and associated components at the Karatas-Maybulak area, a land plot was allocated, investments were made, invests in exploration work. The project was included in the Industrialization Map of the Zhambyl region.

The planned annual capacity of the plant at the Maybulak gold deposit was more than 5 tons, followed by a phased increase in capacity. The unique, the only one in the world, gold mining technology was developed specifically for the complexities of the Kordai district deposit, containing, along with gold, accompanying metals.

“The project will allow open more than 2,800 jobs, which will mainly involve the local residents. This will give a positive impetus to the development of not only the Kordai district but the region as a whole. Besides, training will be conducted under the training program for young specialists,” the press service noted.

The construction of the mining-metallurgical complex in Kordai will have a multiplier effect in the development of related industries, an increase in the gross product, and employment of the population of the Zhambyl region.

“The ‘Monterra Qasaqstan’ company takes an active part in the region’s social life. Over the past two years, charitable assistance was provided in the amount of 103.5 million tenge ($240,000),” the company’s General Director Meruert Danbayeva noted. “The company invested about 6 billion tenge ($14 million) in the project, while tax deductions to the budget by the end of 2021 will amount to over 1 billion tenge ($2.3 million).”

The new plant will produce the Dore gold-silver alloy. In general, the project cost is 832 billion tenge ($1.93 billion). The project will be implemented in three stages with a design capacity of up to 10 tons of gold per year.
