Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan Yerulan Zhamaubayev spoke about the results of the fight against the illicit economy, Trend reports citing the Kazakh media.

“Our priority task is to reduce the illicit economy to the level of the countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This is 15 percent of GDP. Now work is underway to update the Action Plan to counter the illicit economy in all areas and industries. We are carrying out intensive work on the digitalization of tax and customs administration, which makes it possible to provide the budget with stable sources of income,'' Zhamaubayev said at a reporting meeting with the population.

According to the minister, in the last three years alone, the measures taken have provided additional budget revenues in the amount of more than 2 trillion tenge, of which in 2020 - more than 700 billion tenge.

“The illicit economy is also reduced by the universal declaration of incomes of the population. As is known, on January 1, 2021, the first stage of the universal tax declaration started. Its goal is to create an effective system for controlling the income and property of individuals. This will also reduce corruption and increase additional budget revenues,” Zhamaubayev said.

He pointed out that the declaration is carried out in stages with respect to civil servants, followed by a transition to declaration for all citizens.
