BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 28

Trend:

Nariman Zhunussov, Chairman of the Fishery Committee of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan, shared plans to increase the volume of farmed fish, Trend reports citing the Kazakh media.

“Taking into account the existing potential, the Program sets the task to increase the volume of fish farmed from 9,000 tons in 2020 to 270,000 tons by 2030. It is planned to increase the volume of fish farming through the use of potentially suitable reservoirs for fish farming, as well as the implementation of new industrial fish farming projects and bringing existing farms to the design capacity,” Zhunussov said at a briefing in the Central Communications Service (CCS).

According to the chairman, 1,283 new fish farms will be created by 2030 and the volume of cultivation of 288 existing farms will be increased.

“The projects were distributed based on the characteristics of each region and were reflected in the Regional programs for the development of fisheries, approved by local executive bodies. To achieve the set goals, it is planned to attract 340 billion tenge ($796.4 million) of private investment within 10 years and allocate about 200 billion tenge ($468.4 million) from the state budget,” Zhunussov noted.

"In 2021, it is expected to grow 12,800 tons of fish at the expense of existing fish farms. At the beginning of the year, according to operational data, 7,600 tons of marketable fish have already been grown," he added
