Kazakhstan launches polymetallic processing plant in Karaganda region

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev launched a new polymetallic plant at the mining-processing plant in Zhairem settlement, Karaganda region in the teleconference mode, Trend reports citing Akorda.

As reported, nearly 2,500 people took part in the construction of the enterprise. For Zhairem, the launch of the project means a new life, major development prospects. The mining - processing complex is expected to become a major producer of zinc and lead concentrates in Kazakhstan. The enterprise will involve 400 people.

Governor of the Karaganda region Zhenis Kasymbek informed the Head of State about the significance of this project for the region. The new factory will expand the range of the manufactured products, and the output will increase by 2.5 times to five million tons. The export of processed products will also increase, and tax revenues will grow by 1.5 billion tenge ($3.5 million).

The general director of Kazzinc LLP, Alexander Khmelev, said that the factory was built in three years, and even the COVID-19 pandemic did not interfere with the task.

According to Khmelev, the launch of the processing plant will become a milestone not only in the development of Zhairem, but also in the entire Karaganda region.

“Here five million tons of ore will be processed per year, meaning a stable workload of the enterprise for at least 15 years. Implementing the production project, the Kazzinc company invested almost five billion tenge ($1.2 million) in the development of the Zhairem settlement,” he added.
