Kazakhstan Stock Exchange reveals trade volume of government securities

The amount of government debt at par, traded on Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE), as of October 1, 2021 amounted to 17.6 trillion tenge ($4.1 billion), having decreased relative to the indicator as of September 1, 2021 by 1.2 percent or 214.9 billion tenge ($502.4 million) - an increase of 5.3 percent since the beginning of 2021, Trend reports citing KASE.

According to KASE, the total volume of trades in government securities on KASE at the end of September 2021 amounted to 215 billion tenge ($502.6), having increased compared to August 2021 by 25 percent or 42.6 billion tenge ($99.6 million). The trading volume on the primary market for government securities in September 2021 amounted to 172.3 billion tenge ($403 million), which falls on the placement of treasury obligations of the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan.

In the context of the main categories of investors in the secondary market, banks accounted for 49.7 percent, broker-dealers accounted for 7.4 percent, other institutional investors accounted for 12.3 percent, the share of other legal entities amounted to 30.3 percent, the share of individuals was 0.4 percent. The participation of non-residents was estimated at 7.8 percent.

Total volume of assets under management in the collective investment market as of October 1, 2021 amounted to 434.14 billion tenge ($1 billion), increasing by 29.2 billion tenge ($68.3 million) or 7.2 percent compared to last month. The increase was primarily recorded due to the attracted assets of investors through the placement of shares of investment funds and due to an increase in accounts receivable.

Moreover, cash in the structure of total assets as of October 1, 2021 amounted to 38.4 billion tenge ($90 million), having decreased by one billion tenge ($2.3 million) compared to the data of previous month. Also, during the period under review, the main asset of mutual funds was a portfolio of securities, which amounted to 367 billion tenge ($858 million) or 84.5 percent of total assets, while 98.8 percent of the portfolio consisted of securities denominated in foreign currency.

Securities of non-resident issuers in the portfolio of mutual investment funds amounted to 319.9 billion tenge ($748 million) or 74 percent of total assets, issuers-residents of Kazakhstan - 20.8 billion tenge ($48.6 million) or 4.8 percent of total assets. Also, the assets included shares of foreign investment funds in the amount of 18.1 billion tenge ($42.3 million) or 4.2 percent of total assets.
