Kazakhstan talks weekly dynamics on prices for socially significant food products

The total growth index of prices for socially significant food products (SSFPs) remained unchanged in Kazakhstan over the past week, Trend reports referring to the government message.

As a result of the taken measures, prices of carrot, onion and potato decreased by 3.1 percent, 2.2 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively. Prices for cottage cheese, sunflower oil, rice and salt remained unchanged.

Over the past week, the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition issued six notifications on signs of abuse of a dominant position in terms of the application of different prices to producers of chicken eggs in the North Kazakhstan region, a wholesale supplier of chicken eggs in Nur-Sultan, a wholesale supplier of chicken meat in Aktobe region, and producers of chicken eggs in the Almaty region for anticompetitive agreed actions in terms of maintaining the prices.

Four acts of antimonopoly compliance were concluded with manufacturers and retail chains in Kyzylorda and West Kazakhstan regions. In general, 139 acts of antimonopoly compliance were concluded in the country.

Six warnings were issued for the West Kazakhstan region about the inadmissibility of violating antimonopoly legislation for a public statement about a possible increase in prices to producers of meat and eggs of chickens, bread and flour, pasta. According to preliminary data, there are signs of violation of antimonopoly legislation by poultry farms.

Repeated violations will be investigated within one calendar year from the date of notification.

Prime Minister Askar Mamin instructed the regional authorities monitor prices and take appropriate operational measures for each position of SSFPs, manually ensure timely deliveries of food products to store shelves to avoid price increases.

Given the completion of the harvest and the upcoming holidays, the regional authorities were instructed to bring the provision of regions with flour to 100 percent within a week, replenish stocks of basic vegetables in accordance with previously approved standards, and also ensure the conclusion of forward purchase agreements between retail chains and manufacturers without intermediaries.
