The share of e-commerce is growing in the total volume of B2C (Business-to-Consumer) retail trade in Kazakhstan, the Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan Bakhyt Sultanov said during the Government Hour in the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, Trend reports.

According to Sultanov, work is underway to develop the competitiveness of Kazakhstan’s market.

"One of its main components is the development of exchange trading. In order to improve it, the list of exchange commodities has been expanded, and a draft law has been developed, which was considered today in the first reading by the Mazhilis (Lower Chamber) of the Parliament. It is aimed at increasing the transparency of the activities of commodity exchanges, creating conditions for the development, and increase in the volume of exchange trade. Our midterm goal is to increase the share of exchange trade up to 14 percent of the volume of wholesale trade," the minister said.

Sultanov also noted that comprehensive work was carried out to develop electronic commerce. It allowed in 2020 to double its volumes and exceed the 1.1 trillion tenge ($2.5 billion) mark.

Its share in the total volume of B2C retail trade amounted to 9.7 percent. At the end of nine months of 2021, the volume amounted to 981.3 billion tenge ($2.3 billion), reaching a share of 10.7 percent.

According to the minister, as part of the expansion and development of the e-commerce ecosystem, systematic work continues to stimulate e-commerce and train SMEs, develop the infrastructure for the distribution and delivery of goods.

In addition, the task has been set to bring the share of e-commerce to 15 percent of retail turnover by 2025. Comprehensive measures to develop the industry will result in a reduction in the share of unobservable shadow trade in GDP, which today reaches almost six percent.

Sultanov also said that in order to protect the domestic market from dangerous and harmful goods that negatively affect the life and health of the population, laws on consumer protection and technical regulation have been adopted. Also, "e-Tutynushy" and "e-Accreditation" information systems have been launched.
