BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 21. A 57 MW gas turbine unit has been installed at Aktobe CHP power station in Kazakhstan, Trend reports, citing Kazakh media.

The launch of the new gas turbine plant increases the installed capacity of the station from 118 to 175 MW and will provide additional power generation of 423 million kWh per year, which, in turn, will strengthen the energy potential of the region and ensure energy security.

The total cost of the project is 20.9 billion Kazakh tenge ($45.4 million). The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) has provided financing to the main part of the project in the amount of 15.98 billion Kazakh tenge ($34.7 million) within the credit agreement. The aim is to maximize the automation of the production process through advanced technology.

“Today, our region needs 900 MW of electricity, half of which is provided by local electricity utilities, and the rest is purchased from outside. At the same time, the need for electricity is expected to increase to 1,500 MW over the next 10 years,” Yeraly Tugzhanov, Akim of Aktobe region, said at the launch ceremony.
