BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 27. Cargo turnover of the JSC NC “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” (KTZ), national railway company, reached the historic maximum of 252 billion tonne-kilometers, said Nurlan Sauranbaev, Chair of the Board of KTZ, Trend reports, citing presidential press service.

Sauranbaev made the statement in the framework of the meeting with the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The overall volume of container traffic increased to 1,129 (twenty-foot equivalent) TEU containers.

The KTZ CEO also added that the company plans to construct 1,285 kilometers of railroad in the next three years, which will positively impact the transport and logistics potential of the country.

Additionally, Sauranbaev highlighted the work on the development of international transport corridors, expansion of the capacity of the seaports of Aktau and Kuryk, as well as cooperation with major foreign transport and logistics companies.

Kazakhstan Temir Zholy is the national railway company of Kazakhstan, founded by the government in 2002 as a joint stock company. KTZ’s task is to develop, operate, and maintain railway transportation in Kazakhstan. It is headquartered in Astana.
