BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 2. Kazakhstan’s national railway company “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” (KTZ) will launch the tests of OneWeb satellite terminals on the railway of Kazakhstan, a source at KTZ told Trend.

The intended launch comes as a part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the KTZ and OneWeb - «Network Access Associates Ltd.», an international company specializing in the field of satellite communications.

Anuar Akhmetzhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Board on Transformation and Digitalization of Kazakhstan, said that the cooperation will enable KTZ to receive a signal from a low-orbit satellite constellation. This will ensure the stability of communication, as well as create a backup channel at the stations.

Consequently, remote facilities and trains will have access to communications and the Internet.

Kazakhstan Temir Zholy is the national railway company of Kazakhstan, founded by the government in 2002 as a joint stock company. KTZ’s task is to develop, operate, and maintain railway transportation in Kazakhstan. It is headquartered in Astana.
