BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 23. The first batch of oil from Kazakhstan’s Kalamkas-Khazar oil field will be extracted sometime in 2028, Kurmangazi Iskaziyev, “Kalamkas-Khazar Operating” Director General, said, Trend reports, citing Kazakh media.

Iskaziyev said that the design work at the oil field, located in Kazakhstan's part of the Caspian Sea, will be carried out throughout 2023, while the construction of the oil platform will commence in late 2024.

The offshore platforms will be constructed some 64 kilometers away from the coast at the Kalamkas-Sea structure. Oil output at Kalamkas-Khazar field is expected to reach 4 million tonnes per annum.

The oilfield, located in the Kazakhstan sector of the Caspian Sea, was discovered in 2002. The overall reserves of Kalamkas-Khazar are estimated to be around 81 million tons.

Earlier, KazMunayGas, the national oil and gas company of Kazakhstan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Lukoil, a Russian energy corporation on the joint work on the Kalamkas-Khazar oilfield. According to the MoU, KazMunayGas, and Lukoil will receive a 50-percent stake each in the Kalamkas-Sea and Khazar projects in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea.
