BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 23. Around 58,200 people from Russia visited Kazakhstan in 2022, which made Russia the most significant source of tourists to the Central Asian nation, Trend reports, citing the Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Uzbekistan was a distant second, with 11,200 Uzbeks choosing Kazakhstan as their arrival destination. Kyrgyzstan was third with around 3,000 people. Meanwhile, the number of Chinese and Tajik tourists exceeded 2,300 each.

Among the more distant countries, India was the leader, with around 3,000 people visiting. This is attributed to Kazakhstan winning a prestigious tourism award in India recently, which sparked increased interest in Kazakhstan from Indian residents.

Türkiye was also one of the best-performing countries. Some 2,500 residents of Türkiye visited Kazakhstan in 2022, while Germany and the UK also being in the top 10.

Almaty and Astana remain the most popular destinations for foreigners. Around 40,000 tourists visited Almaty, while Astana welcomed some 20,000 tourists. Aktobe region was the third most appealing region to visit, with, 4733 foreigners traveling there.

Kazakh government identified tourism as one of the promising areas for economic diversification. To unlock the potential of this sector, the Kazakh government expands the number of flights available to travel to and from Kazakhstan, in addition to modernizing travel infrastructure.
