BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 24. QazaqGaz, Kazakhstan’s national gas company, proposed Gazprom, a Russian energy corporation, to consider the construction of a gas pipeline from Russia to China, running through the territory of Kazakhstan, Arman Kasenov, Deputy Chairman for Marketing of the Board of QazaqGaz, said, Trend reports, citing Kazakh media.
Kasenov noted that the pipeline would enable Kazakhstan to increase the gasification level of the northern and eastern regions of the country.
The QazaqGaz official noted that gasification of the said
regions will be impossible to carry out by domestic gas supplies,
therefore the proposed pipeline remains the most feasible approach
to achieve the goal.
He concluded by saying that the proposal has already been made, and
it is under the consideration of Gazprom.
Earlier, Bolat Akchulakov, the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, said that QazaqGaz and Gazprom are working out the initial feasibility study for the construction of a gas pipeline from Russia to China via Kazakhstan. However, the minister did not reveal any details regarding the feasibility study and technical parameters of the potential pipeline.
