Farmers in Kazakhstan's Zhambyl region harvest first tons of grain from new crop

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 21. The harvesting campaign has commenced in the grain-producing farms of Kazakhstan's Zhambyl region, where farmers are set to reap the harvest from nearly 380,000 hectares of grain fields, Trend reports.

In early March, the spring field work began in the Zhambyl region, and in the last decade of June, the harvest season started. The wheat harvest has been initiated in two out of the ten districts of the region - Zhambyl and Ryskulov.

In the Zhambyl district, farmers will harvest from 4,500 hectares of winter wheat and 13,300 hectares of barley. In the Ryskulov district, the area to be harvested includes 61,700 hectares of winter wheat and 53,200 hectares of barley. As of today, 305 tons of grain have been collected.

This year farmers in Zhambyl region have allocated 379,000 hectares for grain crops, including 162,700 hectares for winter wheat and 216,300 hectares for barley. Over 800 agricultural machinery are planned to be involved in the harvesting operations.

In total, 770,700 hectares have been allocated for agricultural crops this year, which is 14,700 hectares more than in 2022. The area for vegetable crops accounts for 61,700 hectares, 10,400 hectares for sugar beets, and 11,800 hectares for potatoes. Additionally, fodder crops have been sown on 216,700 hectares. A total of 15,500 tons of diesel fuel has been allocated for agricultural work this year.

For the current year, 54,000 tons of fertilizers are planned to be applied to an area of 280,000 hectares of farmland.
