Kazakhstan's transport sector records slight growth

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 12. A total of 474.2 million tons of cargo were transported by all modes of transport in Kazakhstan from January through June 2023, marking an increase of 2.2 percent compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.

According to the country's Bureau of National Statistics, the freight turnover reached 248.8 billion ton-kilometers, demonstrating a 2.5 percent rise compared to January through June 2022.

Furthermore, passenger transportation recorded notable growth, with 761.4 million passengers carried, representing a 9.9 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Passenger turnover also experienced growth, reaching 34.1 billion passenger-kilometers, reflecting a 14.4 percent rise year-over-year.

In the regional breakdown, the freight turnover growth was particularly notable in cities such as Shymkent (44.6 percent), Almaty (35.7 percent), Astana (21.7 percent), as well as in Eastern Kazakhstan (37.8 percent), Pavlodar (28 percent), West Kazakhstan (18.3 percent), North Kazakhstan (16.3 percent), Karaganda (6.5 percent), Kyzylorda (5.4 percent), and Kostanay (3.2 percent) regions.

Passenger turnover increased in the cities of Almaty (34.8 percent), and Astana (21.2 percent), as well as in Atyrau (42.3 percent), North Kazakhstan (29.3 percent), Turkestan (26.1 percent), East Kazakhstan (24 percent), Almaty (22.7 percent), Mangistau (17.8 percent), Kyzylorda (11.6 percent) regions.
