Kazakhstan, Indonesia keen to skyrocket mutual trade turnover

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 27. Kazakhstan and Indonesia have set an ambitious goal of bringing their mutual trade turnover to $1 billion, Trend reports.

According to the country's Ministry of Trade and Integration, this was stated during the second round of negotiations for the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states and the Republic of Indonesia.

During the opening ceremony of the second round, Kazakhstan and Indonesia also identified key sectors of cooperation, especially in the halal industry and trade of food products, aimed at facilitating the achievement of this target.

In the first five months of 2023, the total trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Indonesia reached $172.4 million, showing a growth of 3.7 percent compared to the same period in the previous year ($166.2 million).

On the other hand, imports to Kazakhstan from Indonesia increased 6.3 times, totaling $94.0 million from January through May 2023. Key imported items included televisions, monitors, and projectors, accounting for $41 million (43.6 percent), followed by passenger cars at $18.1 million (19.2 percent), palm oil at $3.9 million (4.1 percent), data storage devices at $2.9 million (3.1 percent), coconut oil at $2 million (2.2 percent), electronic musical instruments at $1.9 million (2 percent), and footwear with textile uppers at $1.8 million (1.9 percent). Road and construction machinery amounted to $1.4 million (1.5 percent).
