ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 21. A delegation from Chinese company GEELY arrived in East Kazakhstan, Trend reports.
A meeting was held between representatives of the company and deputy akim of East Kazakhstan region Darkhan Sapanov and heads of specialized departments. During the meeting the prospects of cooperation and plans to localize manufacturing of electric cars in Kazakhstan were discussed, with East Kazakhstan highlighted as a priority region for this initiative.
Regional Director of Zhejiang Geely New Energy Commercial Vehicle Development Co LTD Huang Shin shared the company's plans to invest in the development of automobile production in Kazakhstan. According to him, the analysis of the market and the study of possible investments is currently underway.
However, GEELY is a major player in the global automobile market, having shares in such well-known companies as Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Renault SA and Lotus. The company has also acquired a stake in British sports car maker Aston Martin.
Representatives of GEELY expressed their willingness to offer not only electric cars, but also passenger buses, quadrocopters and other industrial equipment on Kazakh market.
Deputy akim of East Kazakhstan Darkhan Sapanov stressed the region's interest in cooperation in the field of manufacturing localization. Eastern Kazakhstan has experience in the automotive industry, as well as the necessary infrastructure. The prospects for cooperation due to geographical proximity and the highway under construction were also emphasized.
However, GEELY representatives expressed the need for government support to locate the plant, including the provision of space for localization, tax incentives, infrastructure support and others.
The results of the meeting include plans for further exploration of opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation, as well as an invitation for East Kazakhstan residents to visit GEELY production in Henan province.
