Production from Kazakhstan's Kashagan oil/gas field may bolster in coming years

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 6. The production potential from Kazakhstan's Kashagan field could reach 1.6 million barrels of oil per day, which is approximately 75 million tons per year, Alikhan Smailov, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, said, Trend reports.

"The main result of exploratory drilling was the announcement of the commercial discovery of the Kashagan field. Its uniqueness lies in its vast oil and gas reserves, but at the same time, it is complex in terms of development," he said.

Smailov emphasized that today, approximately 90 million tons of oil and 55 billion cubic meters of gas have been extracted from Kashagan field, investments totaling over $60 billion have been attracted, over $17 billion has been invested in local content development, providing employment for about 10,000 people, and during the peak of construction, more than 40,000 people.

The North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC), the operator of the North Caspian project consortium, faces important tasks in further increasing production through full-scale development of the field.
