ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 7. Kazakhstan wants to modernize irrigation and drainage systems in the southern regions of the country, Trend reports.
This was discussed during a meeting of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smailov, with the Coordinating Council for cooperation between the government of the country and international financial organizations.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, heads of central government agencies, NCE Atameken, Kazakh Railways, and the fund "Samruk-Kazyna".
Topical issues of the construction and reconstruction of irrigation and drainage systems in the Almaty, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, and Turkestan regions of Kazakhstan on a total area of over 105 thousand hectares were discussed during the meeting. The meeting also discussed the connection of 1,500 rural settlements to high-speed Internet, which will affect about 200 thousand households or more than 1 million people.
Along with this, plans were considered for the reconstruction of the Karaganda-Zhezkazgan highway, which will improve the transport connectivity of the region and stimulate the development of logistics services and trade, as well as the construction of new sewage treatment facilities in the city of Aktobe.
In addition, the participants discussed the modernization of a number of railway tracks and the purchase of new passenger wagons and electric locomotives.
