ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 18. Kazakhstan and Tunisia intend to increase mutual trade turnover of agricultural products, Trend reports.

This was stated at a meeting between Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan Aidarbek Saparov and the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fishing of Tunisia Abdelmonem Belati.

Speaking about expanding the range of supplied goods, Aidarbek Saparov noted that Kazakhstan traditionally occupies a leading position in the export of grain crops and their processed products. This year, the export of Kazakh wheat to Tunisia began, with 72,700 tons delivered to the country’s market.

The Minister of Agriculture proposed to continue this trend and, in addition to grains, consider the possibility of purchasing domestic flour and flour products, pasta and confectionery, vegetable oils and honey.

Regarding the import of products from Tunisia, today mainly dates and fruits are supplied to Kazakhstan. The parties also discussed the issue of supplying olives and olive oil to Kazakhstan.

Saparov also noted the need to work together with Tunisia on the issues of building new logistics routes.

The Minister of Agriculture noted the interest of the Kazakh side in the development of projects in the field of processing of agricultural products and food production. He invited Tunisian companies to organize production in Kazakhstan.

In turn, the Tunisian side also proposed to increase cooperation in the field of policy to ensure national food security, including in the fight against drought.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to sign a memorandum of cooperation between the ministries of the two countries.
