ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 23. Kazakhstan plans to harvest about 300,000 tons of cotton in 2023, Trend reports.
This was stated at a meeting with the participation of representatives of the executive power, cotton growers of the Turkestan region, heads of government agencies, the Baiterek holding, and the national company KTZ, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin.
The only region of the country where cotton is grown is the Turkestan region. About 70,000 farmers are involved in production. In 2022, 362,000 tons of cotton were harvested.
This year, the massive harvest campaign will begin in the third ten days of September.
The regional executive power has developed a project for the construction of a cotton-textile cluster. If fully implemented, nine cotton-textile clusters will be created in the region through the construction of 75 plants, enterprises, and factories. The expected effect is over 40,000 new jobs and about 26.2 billion tenge (about $55.1 million) of annual budget revenues. Investment subsidies are required for the full implementation of the project.
As part of the development of bilateral cooperation with Uzbekistan, a joint project is being implemented to create a textile cluster with the Global Textile Company. The company intends to establish textile production in the region.
