ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 3. The volume of production in the manufacturing industry amounted to 14 trillion tenge (about $29.1 billion) over the past 8 months of 2023, which is 3.1 percent more than the same period of the previous year, Trend reports.
As Minister of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan Kanat Sharlapayev said at a government meeting, the industry accounted for 13.4 percent of the country’s GDP - third largest contribution to the economy after trade and mining.
According to him, the dynamics in production volume are also positive: over the past year, products worth 21.1 trillion tenge (about $44 billion) were produced, which is 2.2 times more than five years ago.
"In terms of industries, over the past 8 months of 2023, mechanical engineering demonstrates strong dynamics at the level of 28.1 percent due to the production of vehicles (+42.2 percent), machinery and equipment (+22.5 percent), as well as electrical equipment (+34.3 percent). In light industry, growth of 19.8 percent was achieved due to the production of textiles (+35.9 percent), in the chemical industry - at 3.1 percent due to the production of ammophos (+44.8 percent)," he said.
Sharlapayev noted that there are about 20,000 enterprises in the industry, which provide more than 613,000 permanent jobs.
The index of industrial production in Kazakhstan from January through July 2023 amounted to 103.6 percent. During this period, industrial goods were produced for a total of 26,3 trillion tenge (about $55.5 billion). In the structure of production, 46.6 percent (12,2 trillion tenge or about $25.7 billion) came from the mining industry, and 46.7 percent (12,3 trillion tenge or about $25.9 billion) from the manufacturing industry.
