ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 27. The volume of transactions using payment cards of Kazakh issuers amounted to 14.9 trillion tenge (about $31.4 billion); the number of transactions was 1.03 billion in August 2023, Trend reports.
Data from Kazakhstan's National Bank shows that compared to the same period in 2022, the number of non-cash transactions increased by 27.6 percent and reached 1 billion transactions; the volume increased by 35.3 percent and reached 12.9 trillion tenge (about $27.2 billion).
Payment cardholders carried out 21.1 million transactions to withdraw cash in the amount of 2 trillion tenge (about $4.2 billion). There is a decrease in the number of cash withdrawal transactions compared to August 2022 by 3.6 percent and an increase in the volume of transactions by 10.3 percent.
The volume of non-cash card transactions in 2022 reached 102.8 trillion tenge (about $217 billion), an increase of 42.3 percent compared to 2021. The number of transactions increased by 38 percent to 8.5 billion transactions.
Cash issuance operations increased by 5.3 percent, from 20.7 trillion (about $43.7 billion) to 21.8 trillion tenge (about $46 billion). Thus, the number of non-cash card transactions exceeded cash issuance by 4.7 times. In the total volume, the share of non-cash transactions amounted to 82.5 percent, compared to 77.7 percent for the same period in 2021.
