ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 8. Kazakhstan will connect 2,000 rural schools to Starlink high-speed internet, Trend reports.
This was stated during a meeting in the government chaired by Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov.
This work will include the delivery and maintenance of related equipment.
It was noted that in October of this year, 10 rural schools were connected to internet using Starlink technology from SpaceX in test mode. The data transfer speed on this network reaches 200 Mbit/s.
In addition, the meeting discussed the development of 5G communications in the country.
Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Bagdat Musin noted that to date, telecom operators have installed more than 800 5G base stations in Astana, Almaty, Shymkent and regional centers.
The minister added that in order to accelerate the implementation of the technology, it is necessary to eliminate a number of regulatory barriers that significantly affect the timing of the launch of communication stations.
As President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev previously said, Kazakhstan plans to complete the full-scale deployment of the 5G network in the country ahead of schedule.
Previously, the goal was set to cover all regional centers with new generation cellular communications by 2027.
"The government needs to complete this work ahead of schedule - before the end of 2025. Of course, the shift in deadlines should in no way affect the quality of the services provided," Tokayev said.
