ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 14. Construction of a large wind power plant in the Zhetysu region of Kazakhstan is planned to begin in 2025, Trend reports.
The capacity of this wind power plant will be 1 GW. It is a joint investment project between Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia. The official circles of Kazakhstan are currently fleshing out the details of the project.
Preparatory work is currently underway. Kazakhstan is speeding up the administrative procedures and work out all the necessary decisions on the part of central government agencies.
As the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov stated at a government meeting, it is necessary to intensify work with investors from Saudi Arabia at all levels. In particular, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, the diplomatic mission of Kazakhstan in Jeddah, the national company Kazakh Invest and other interested government agencies and organizations have been advised to take a more proactive position.
Overall, the cooperation between Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia is developing. In March of this year, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, Samruk-Kazyna JSC and the Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power signed an agreement on the implementation of a major project in the field of renewable energy sources.
This agreement was signed during the working trip of the former Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Bolat Akchulakov together with the former Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Kazyna JSC Almassadam Satkaliyev to the city of Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) on March 1, 2023.
Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia for 2022 amounted to $16.5 million, which is 90.5 percent higher than the previous year ($8.6 million).
The volume of exports from Kazakhstan to Saudi Arabia at the end of last year decreased by 14.2 percent and amounted to $4.7 million. Imports to Kazakhstan from Saudi Arabia in 2022 increased 3.7 times and reached $11.8 million.
