ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 5. The volume of cargo transportation by road in Kazakhstan amounted to 5.5 million tons from January through September 2023, said Vice Minister of Transport Satzhan Ablaliyev at a government meeting, Trend reports.
Thus, compared to the same period in 2022, the volume of transportation increased by 22 percent. The share of local operators in cargo transportation is 42 percent.
An increase was also registered in transit transportation. In the nine months of 2023, the volume of transit cargo transportation amounted to 3.6 million tons, which is 44 percent more than the same period last year (2.5 million tons).
The main volume of transit transportation falls on China. In this direction, the volume doubled and amounted to 1.5 million tons.
As the vice minister noted, there is great potential for further increasing the volume of transit cargo transportation from China to Europe. If the current dynamics are maintained, the level of transit transportation through the territory of Kazakhstan will increase 5 times by 2029, which will have a positive impact on the development of the country’s economy.
According to him, to redirect cargo delivered by sea to road corridors and increase the share of domestic operators in transportation, measures will be taken to create bonded warehouses, increase the capacity of checkpoints, expand the internal fleet, as well as introduce an effective system for distributing permits.
