ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 9. Kazakhstan has managed to reduce irrigation water losses in the south of the country, Trend reports.
As the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation noted, this became possible thanks to the implementation of a project to improve irrigation and drainage systems.
The project was implemented on 105,100 hectares in Almaty, Jambyl, Kyzylorda and Turkestan regions.
Thus, since the beginning of the project, water supply has been improved to 74,500 hectares of irrigated land. Water losses in irrigation networks decreased to 193 million cubic meters.
In addition, the ministry noted that work is underway to digitalize 3,500 km of irrigation networks in Almaty, Jambyl, Kyzylorda and Turkestan regions.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan has developed a Comprehensive Plan for the Development of Water Resources for 2024-2030.
Thus, during this period of time, Kazakhstan will build 20 new reservoirs as well as reconstruct 15 existing reservoirs and more than 14,000 kilometers of irrigation systems.
