Kazakhstan Railways' operational freight turnover shows growth in 2023

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 25. The operational freight turnover of Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, national company) reached 269 billion t-km from January through December 2023, Trend reports.

According to the KTZ, this is 7 percent more than in 2022.

At the same time, transit transportation in containers amounted to 1.028 million TEU, which is 13.5 percent more than the same period last year.

In addition, the volume of cargo transportation between the railways of Kazakhstan and China increased by 22 percent and reached 28 million tons.

As the company noted, the main tasks for 2024 are to increase transportation volumes and develop transit, implement digitalization programs, and update railway infrastructure and rolling stock.

Meanwhile, loading on the Kazakhstan Railways network (KTZ, national company) amounted to 257.3 million tons from January through December 2023, which is 5 million tons higher than in 2022. Exports increased by 9 percent to 85.8 million tons.
