BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 26. Interaction with Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan is carried out in the format of annual meetings of subcommissions on cooperation in the field of transport, the Russian Transport Ministry told Trend.

"Interaction with the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Kazakhstan takes the form of annual meetings of subcommissions on transport cooperation within the framework of intergovernmental commissions on economic cooperation, as well as profile negotiations on types of transport," the ministry informed.

As noted in the Ministry of Transport, during the meetings, the most pressing issues and projects of transport infrastructure development and transportation dynamics are discussed.

"The results of the meetings and the list of directions for the development of bilateral cooperation are recorded in the protocols," the ministry noted.

Meanwhile, Russia, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan are connected by the international transport corridor North-South.

The foundation of the North-South transport corridor was laid based on an intergovernmental agreement signed between Russia, Iran, and India on September 12, 2000. Azerbaijan joined this agreement in 2005.

A total of 13 countries (Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Armenia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Oman, the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Türkiye and Ukraine) have ratified the agreement.

The Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan earlier reported that the volume of freight traffic by rail along the North-South corridor in 2023 amounted to 2.1 million tons, which is 4 percent more than in 2022. The transport potential of the corridor will be increased from 6 to 10 million tons per year by 2027.
