ASTANA, Kazakhstan, March 8. Kazakhstan's Samruk-Energy JSC and the China International Water and Electric Corporation (CWE) have signed a cooperation agreement on the project of the first pumped storage hydropower in Kazakhstan, Trend reports.
The agreement was signed by Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Energy JSC Kayrat Maksutov and Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of CWE Shi Yingtao.
Thus, the parties agreed to work together to develop the project and implement it. In particular, the CWE intends to carry out a feasibility study on the project, including an analysis of the hydropower potential of Kazakhstan.
Chinese experts also expressed their readiness to share their experience in implementing hydropower projects and provide assistance in the construction of the first pumped storage hydropower in Kazakhstan.
Previously, the China International Water and Electric Corporation participated in the construction of the Moynak hydroelectric power station, the largest hydroelectric power station in Southern Kazakhstan.
The agreement signed by the parties cemented the intention to further cooperate and strengthen mutually beneficial partnerships for the implementation of a breakthrough project in the country’s energy sector.
