ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 18. The heads of Kazakhstan's KazMunayGas (KMG, the national oil and gas company), SIBUR (one of the largest integrated petrochemical companies in Russia), and China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec) have discussed the implementation of the project for the construction of a polyethylene production plant in the Atyrau region of Kazakhstan, Trend reports.

The proposed polyethylene production plant has a design capacity of 1.25 million tons per year. The firm will be established in Karabatan's special economic zone, near the Tengiz field (Atyrau region).

"I am convinced that by working together, we will be able to effectively implement Kazakhstan's largest gas chemical project. This project is of strategic importance to the country's economy and also satisfies KMG's long-term strategic aims," said Chairman of the Board of KMG Magzum Mirzagaliev.

Notably, the purchase and sale agreement for a share in the polyethylene production project was signed between the companies in Beijing on October 17, 2023.

Meanwhile, polyethylene is the basis for the production of a number of household and industrial products and goods, such as polyethylene pipes, construction and packaging materials, auto components, and others.
