ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 7. Russian Gazprom (a transnational energy company) and Kazakhstan's QazaqGaz (a national company) have signed long-term agreements for the transportation of Russian gas through the territory of Kazakhstan in the direction of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, Trend reports, citing Gazprom.

The documents were signed by Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Board of Gazprom, and Sanzhar Zharkeshov, Chairman of the Management Board of QazaqGaz.

The contracts are valid for 2025–2040.

According to the documents, to ensure transit, it is envisaged, in particular, to expand a specially designated route based on the "Central Asia – Center" gas pipeline system, as well as to implement other projects to develop gas transportation capacities in Kazakhstan.

At the same time, Alexey Miller and First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Roman Sklyar signed an action plan to prepare facilities for the "Central Asia – Center – IV" gas pipeline to increase the transportation of Russian gas to Uzbekistan.

On October 7, 2023, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev gave a start to the transit of Russian natural gas through the territory of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan. Gas transit is carried out through the Central Asia-Center gas trunkline.

Meanwhile, according to Kazakh Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev, Russia's gas supplies to Uzbekistan are planned to quadruple in 2026—up to 11 billion cubic meters per year.

"Last year, with the participation of the president of the state, the transit of Russian gas in the amount of up to 3 billion cubic meters per year was initiated through our country's territory to Uzbekistan," Kazakh Energy Minister Almassadam Satkaliyev said at a board meeting of the Energy Ministry.
