Kazakhstan sees record inflow of investment from Russia

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 9. The gross inflow of investment into Kazakhstan amounted to a record amount of about $3 billion in 2023, Yerzhan Yelekeyev, the Chairman of the Board of KAZAKH INVEST (Kazakhstan's national company), said, Trend reports.

He made the remark during the Russia-Kazakhstan business dialogue, held as part of the 27th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

"Currently, over 19,000 enterprises with Russian participation are successfully operating in Kazakhstan. There are good results, leading projects, and very promising initiatives in the investment sector. Russia remains one of the largest investors in our economy. Joint projects contribute to the development of technologies, the opening of new markets, and the creation of jobs. Last year marked a record result – the gross inflow of investments approached the $3 billion mark," he said.

He noted the need to increase mutual investments to implement joint projects. Yelekeyev also presented prospective niches for potential investment projects to Russian business representatives, including the mining and metallurgical complex, petrochemicals, and automotive industry.

In conclusion, he invited Russian businessmen to implement joint projects.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan's trade turnover with Russia amounted to $25.9 billion from January through December 2023, which is 3.7 percent less than in 2022.

At the same time, in the structure of trade turnover, exports to Russia for the above period amounted to $9.78 billion, which is 7.6 percent more than 2022 ($9.09 billion).

In addition, imports from Russia from January through December 2023 decreased by 9.4 percent and amounted to $16.2 billion. In 2022, imports amounted to $17.9 billion.
