ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 2. The first shunting diesel locomotives have arrived in Kazakhstan ahead of time thanks to a cooperation deal signed on October 17, 2023, during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's official visit to China, with the Chinese business CRRC, Trend reports.
The official ceremony for receiving diesel locomotives took place at Altynkol station.
The deal includes the delivery of 100 mainline locomotives and 100 shunting locomotives. It is planned to open rolling stock service centers in Kazakhstan and create an engineering center.
Shunting diesel locomotives has improved structural and traction parameters. They are built taking into account the climatic conditions of Kazakhstan and are capable of operating at temperatures ranging from -40°C to +50°C. Weight is 135 tons.
The diesel generator set complies with environmental standards adopted in Kazakhstan.
CRRC Corporation Limited is the world's largest manufacturer of railway vehicles, and owns about 50 percent of the global locomotive market.
Meanwhile, the volume of trade turnover between Kazakhstan and China amounted to $6.27 billion from January through March 2024. This volume increased by 6.3 percent compared to the same period in 2023 ($5.9 billion).
At the same time, exports to China for the above period amounted to $3.18 billion, while imports from China amounted to $3.09 billion.
