ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 5. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have discussed collaboration in the energy field, Trend reports, citing the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.
Discussions took place between the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan, Beibut Atamkulov, and the Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, Jurabek Mirzamahmudov.
Thus, during the meeting, the parties positively assessed the dynamics and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. The parties noted that cooperation in the field of supplies and transit of oil and gas is proceeding in accordance with the agreements reached and on time.
The interlocutors especially noted the established close cooperation in the electricity industry regarding the flow of electricity during peak periods, which indicates a high level of mutual trust and coordination.
During the meeting, the trilateral measures taken on the Kambarata HPP-1 construction project, which is an important stage in ensuring sustainable development and stability in the region, were also reviewed.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness for further interaction and the strengthening of bilateral relations in the energy industry.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan’s trade turnover volume with Kazakhstan amounted to $1.5 billion from January through May 2024. This figure is 21 percent lower year-on-year ($1.9 billion from January through May 2023).
Kazakhstan was Uzbekistan's third-largest international trading partner. The country accounts for 5.9 percent of Uzbekistan's commercial turnover.
The volume of exports to Kazakhstan from Uzbekistan amounted to $485.5 million, while the imports from Kazakhstan reached $1 billion during this period.
