President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev received U.S. Under Secretary for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman, Kyrgyz presidential press service reported.

"On Nov.30, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Atambayev received U.S. Under Secretary for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman. During the meeting, issues of cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the United States were discussed," the report says.

"I am glad to welcome you. We know that twenty years ago the U.S. was among the first to recognize the independence of Kyrgyzstan. We appreciate the constructive cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the United States," Atambayev said.

Sherman said that she was honored to be in Bishkek on the eve of the anniversary of Atambayev's activity as president of the country. "We appreciate your desire to strengthen the rule of law, judicial reforms, eradicating corruption and ethnic intolerance," she said.

The sides noted the positive dynamics in the development of relations between Kyrgyzstan and the United States.

On the same day, Sherman received Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Jantoro Satybaldiev.

Stressing the progressive development of bilateral relations, Satybaldiev expressed hope that the cooperation between the two countries will only enhance.

Satybaldiev thanked the U.S. government for its support in rebuilding the settlements affected after the June 2010 events.

Sherman stressed that the United States attaches great importance to cooperation with Kyrgyzstan as well as with the Central Asian region in general.

The sides discussed the economic plans of the Kyrgyz government for the coming years, and the further implementation of the projects in the country's agricultural sector.
