The situation in the Kyrgyzstan’s Issyk-Kul oblast is stable, press-secretary of Internal Affairs Department of Issyk-Kul oblast, Stalbek Usubakunov told KyrTag on Monday.

The situation in the Kyrgyzstan's Issyk-Kul oblast is stable, press-secretary of Internal Affairs Department of Issyk-Kul oblast, Stalbek Usubakunov told KyrTag on Monday.

"The night was quiet. Policemen were patrolling through the night in an active mode. Now the situation is stable," Usubakunov said.

On October 7 the residents of Saruu village organized a rally in Kyrgyz city of Karakol to support nationalization of Kumtor gold mine. Some 500-600 people participated in the protest.

Kyrgyz government's authorized representative in Issyk-Kul oblast, Emilbek Kaptagayev, who was negotiating with the protesters, was taken hostage by them and held in a protected vehicle for over 6 hours.

Later, special equipments were used in order to disperse the demonstrators.

The protesters were throwing stones and Molotov cocktails at the police.

Some 23 active participants of the rally were detained.

All the detainees were taken to the National Security Committee's Issyk-Kul Regional Department. Measures of restraint are being decided.

All detainees are mostly the residents of the Jeti-Oguz district.

The official sources confirmed that, six people were injured the day before as a result of dispersal of demonstrators. All of the injured are the police officers.

Criminal cases have been initiated.
