Donald Lu, the current U.S. Ambassador to Albania, was nominated by the Senate as a candidate for the post of the United States’ Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, the website of the White house announced, Kyrgyz media reported.

Donald Lu was born in 1966 in California. He started his career in the diplomatic service in 1990. He served as an employee of the Political Department of the Consulate in Peshawar (Pakistan) and the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi (Georgia), and as a Special Assistant to the Ambassador at the Embassy in New Delhi (India).

Donald Lu served as Deputy Director of the Office for Central Asia and South Caucasus Affairs. From 2003 to 2006, he served as Deputy Head of the Embassy in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan). Then he held a similar position in the U.S. Embassy in Baku (Azerbaijan).

In 2014 he was appointed Ambassador of the US to the Republic of Albania.
