BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 16. China Power International Development Limited (CPID) and China Railway 20 Bureau Group Corporation (CR20G) plan to participate in the construction of a solar power plant in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan, a source at the government of Kyrgyzstan told Trend.

The construction of the solar power plant with a capacity of 11 GW has been discussed following the meeting via videoconference between Akylbek Zhaparov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, and representatives of the Chinese companies.

“This project is very important to us. Kyrgyzstan does not realize about 70 percent of its hydropower potential, while continues to import electricity,” Zhaparov said.

He added that the country is carrying out a number of reforms to restructure and ensure the sustainable development of the energy system, including within the framework of the development of renewable energy sources and solar energy.

According to the press service, the agreement on the construction is planned to be signed within the framework of the state visit of the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov to China in the coming days.
